With more than 150 years of history, it is no wonder why the Essendon Football Club is one of the greatest in the league.  Since our first game back in 1873, Essendon has won 20 league and association premierships, including 16 VFL & AFL flags. No other club can rival this.

Our legacy is not defined by a single moment, player, or premiership. It is the shared history, the spirit passed through generations, and the deep connection between players, staff, members, and supporters that truly defines what it means to be Essendon.

Every chapter of our story, from our earliest matches to the launch of our inaugural AFLW team in 2022 where we began making history in the women’s league, forms part of our enduring fabric.

The Heritage Pillar exists to protect, celebrate, and strengthen this legacy, ensuring that everything we’ve built, and everyone who has contributed, remains a living part of our club’s future.

At the heart of this is our unwavering commitment to our past players. They are the custodians of our legacy, the ones who gave their all for the sash. We are dedicated to staying connected with them, celebrating their contributions, and supporting their wellbeing beyond their playing years.

Just as we care for the people who shaped our story, we also care for the physical record of our history. The Heritage Pillar ensures that our vast collection of memorabilia, artefacts, and club records are preserved, restored and protected for future generations. This also extends to upgrading and maintaining our Glory and Fame Museum to ensure that our history remains accessible to you, our supporters.

Our Heritage Pillar ensures that we never lose sight of where we’ve come from and that we honour those who made Essendon what it is today.
